Learn about Admore Bay’s rich history

The cliffs all around Cliff House Hotel are teeming with stories. We can arrange for a local historian to meet you at the hotel, then lead you on a 90-minute walk. As you stroll along Ardmore Bay’s dramatic limestone cliffs you’ll learn about the Bay’s ancient settlements and its famous round tower, which may have been constructed as early as the 10th century.

After that, why not take a short, 10-minute drive into Youghal town and have lunch in Aherne’s Seafood Restaurant, with fresh local seafood and traditional Irish cuisine.

You can then walk the medieval walled city of Youghal, learning the stories and legends of Walter Raleigh, the town’s landlord during the sixteenth century. Raleigh remains a controversial figure in the town, having been given the grounds of Youghal for his role in suppressing the Desmond Rebellions.

For a historical tour with a horticultural bent, let us arrange a garden tour for you at either Careysville House on the River Blackwater, or Lismore Castle, which has a spectacular contemporary art gallery as well as sculptures in the grounds.
